Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy from a Biblical Perspective

“Many Christians today find themselves turning to hatha yoga and other practices precisely because they find help for more fully living out an incarnational Christian faith that values the human body as a divine gift and vehicle.” Tilden Edwards, Living in the Presence

“For thousands of years, yoga has been a scientific approach to bring body, mind and spirit into harmony.” Michael Lee, founder of Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, In Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy , you will be coached to ‘notice’ your body, mind, emotions, and spirit.

Psalm 139 (in part)
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.

“Do you not know that your body is the temple – the very sanctuary – of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you?” 1 Cor 6:19, Amplified Bible.

In Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, you will be coached to ‘notice’ your breath to keep your awareness in the present. When we breathe shallowly or hold our breath, it can tell us we’re anxious, worried or otherwise not present.

“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” Luke 12:25

In Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, you will be coached to ‘notice’ your breath to be present to yourself with God.

“because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else” Acts 17:25b.

“God breathed life into Adam” Gen. 2:7

“… he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” John 20:22

In Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, you will be given the space to know yourself “being before the One Who is in full, loving attention. God is. I am.”
Quote from Thomas Ryan, Prayer of the Heart and Body

“Be still and know that I am God.” Ps 46:10
