When someone you love is hurting, it’s not just your words that matter—it’s the way you look at them, touch their hand, and hold the space around their pain.
This is what I call Embodied Compassion—being present not just mentally, but physically and emotionally, too.
It’s not co-dependence. True compassion is freely given, rooted in our own grounded center. And it begins with meeting our own suffering with awareness.
3 simple ways to strengthen your compassion muscle:
1️⃣ Pause before reacting. Take three slow breaths before speaking, soften your tone.
2️⃣ Empathic listening. Give undivided attention daily—no phone, no multitasking.
3️⃣ Suffering acknowledgment. Feel with them, then say: “That sounds hard. I’m here with you.”
Small acts, practiced consistently, transform relationships—creating warmth, trust, and deeper connection.
If you’d like to explore these practices, join me and Sarah Greco at Kripalu, Sept. 5–7 for Deepening Your Relationship—a weekend to nurture presence, rekindle intimacy, and bring more joy into your connection.
