Inspiration – Listen to a Podcast

On my morning walk today I listened to two very different podcasts, yet at the same time a very similar approach to life was inherent in both. I love to listen to Insight Meditation teacher Gil Fronsdal.  Gil, through many years of practice, offers an approach that I believe is very relevant to living authentically in our world today.  He has the capacity to discern in the moment by being fully present to the moment,  and offers some great wisdom, often interlaced with his lovable sense of humor.  He was right on cue  in the... Harness Body Wisdom – Capture the “Ahaa…Moments”

Ever had one of those ahaa… moments during your yoga practice?  You know, the moment when you get sudden insight or awareness that has life changing potential? I think we all have them from time to time regardless of the nature of our practice.  My belief is that when we engage our body and become very present to our whole being through the medium of our body – something magical happens.  I think our bodies have amazing wisdom to share with us and are just waiting for that right moment... How to Put Oomph to Your New Year Resolutions

Whatever else it means to us, the coming of the New Year does present a great opportunity for us to re-think and re-focus.  This reflects the essence of Phoenix Rising  – “dying to the old and being born to the new.” A great time to celebrate and set new directions.  From my experience though, and possibly true for you, some great resolutions have died on the vine before bearing fruit. Is there a way to set new year resolutions so they will produce some tangible and desired change in our lives?  I... Read The Rest →

Follow Your Dharma

My colleague Stephen Cope in his recent book, “The Great Work of Your Life” talks about dharma as “your life’s true purpose”.   To follow it, the question then becomes, what do we do at any given time in life to firstly know what your dharma is, and then, more significantly, take the action needed to manifest it – to live it out day to day.  It’s become easier for me, as the years have unfolded, to embrace this concept, to pay attention to it, and hopefully to put action to... Practicing Authenticity – Embracing Who We Are

Researcher and Author, Brené Brown says,  Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are. Two words in this definition stand out for me – “practice” and “embracing”. First up, authenticity is a “practice” it’s not just an attitude or belief – it has to be something we actually do, and to make it stick, we probably need to do it daily for at least 30 days to begin with.  This will create a habit. Also we need... Read The Rest →

A More Meaningful Life

Are you looking for a career that gives deeper meaning to your life? SEEKING MEANING IN LIFE  is something we all do, and it often includes questioning our career. Many seekers of a fulfilling career are naturally drawn towards a career as a yoga professional – either as a teacher or a therapist. It’s a meaningful and potentially fulfilling choice, and one that serves others. In 1984,  I was in search of a more meaningful life and career.  So I left my Australian homeland and tenured college teaching job, to study and live at... Read The Rest →
